About this tool

The Assignment Planner is a simple, no-login task tracker built specifically for coursework: add each assignment with its due date and priority, and the tool automatically sorts your list by how soon it is due, calculates the number of days remaining, and lets you mark items as complete as you finish them. Juggling deadlines across several courses at once — each with different due dates, weightings, and levels of urgency — is one of the most common sources of avoidable stress in student life, and a dedicated, always-sorted list removes the mental overhead of tracking it all in your head or across scattered sticky notes.

To use it, enter the name of an assignment, its due date, and a priority level (high, medium, or low, reflecting either how much the assignment counts toward your grade or how much work it will take), then press "Add Assignment." The table below automatically re-sorts every time you add an item, always showing the soonest deadline at the top, and calculates "days left" by comparing the due date to today's date, so you can see at a glance which assignments need attention first. Overdue assignments are shown with a negative day count so they remain visible rather than silently disappearing from the list.

Each row includes a checkbox-style status toggle so you can mark an assignment as complete once it is submitted, without deleting it from the list entirely — this is useful if you like to keep a visual record of what you have finished this week or term. A small delete button on each row lets you remove an assignment entirely once you no longer need to track it, for example after grades are returned.

Priority is intentionally left to you to define, since "high priority" means different things across different students and courses: for some it signals an assignment worth a large percentage of the final grade, for others it signals something that will simply take a long time to complete and therefore needs to be started early even if the deadline is not the soonest one on the list. Use the field however best fits your own planning style.

Because this planner lives entirely in your browser's memory using JavaScript, your list is not saved to a server or synced across devices, and will be cleared if you close the tab or reload the page. It works best as a quick, private planning view for the current session — for longer-term tracking across a whole semester and multiple devices, pair it with a calendar app or dedicated task manager that supports persistent storage.

Reviewing the full list at the start of each week, rather than only when a deadline feels urgent, tends to produce better outcomes than reactive planning, since it lets you notice early when two demanding assignments are due in the same window and adjust your schedule in advance rather than discovering the conflict only a day or two beforehand.

A quick daily habit of glancing at this list first thing in the morning, before opening email or messaging apps, tends to keep it genuinely useful rather than forgotten after the first day of use.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this planner save my assignments between visits?

No, the list exists only in your browser's memory for the current session and will be cleared if you reload or close the tab.

How is 'days left' calculated?

It compares the due date you enter to today's date and shows the number of full days remaining; a negative number indicates the assignment is overdue.

What should I use for priority?

There is no fixed rule — use it to reflect either how much an assignment counts toward your grade or how much time it will take, whichever helps you plan best.

Can I sync this across my phone and laptop?

No, this tool does not sync across devices. For persistent, multi-device tracking, use a calendar app or dedicated task manager alongside this planner.

Can I mark an assignment as complete without deleting it?

Yes, use the status toggle in each row to mark an assignment as done while keeping it visible in your list; use the delete button only when you want to remove it entirely.
